Sophie sent me a link a couple of weeks ago about this and it sounds great! Basically, Bayer have got together with Nintendo to create a video game just for kids with type 1.

As you can see from the image in this post, the name of the game is “Knock ‘em Dead”. As far as I can tell, the game itself isn’t based on a diabetes narrative (I think this is a good thing), but kids get extra points to play the game via doing blood tests.

Essentially, the Didget meter (shown in the image, plugged into the Nintendo console) is based on the regular BG tester from Bayer called a CONTOUR. It takes the same test strips and…

I mentioned in my post about camping over New Year that I am no Brad Pitt and that little thought spurred another which then spurred a conversation with my friend about weight and T1 diabetes.

We are all well too aware of the hazards of eating crappy food and putting weight on for no other reason than being a little over indulgent but my friend and I were talking about how us T1’s have got a little more than the average person to factor in if we want to be the belle of the ball. If I exercise I tend to go low and gobble some glucose, if I aren’t paying attention then I have hypos, since going on…

I dusted off my BG record-keeping sheets today, determined to write down some numbers for a whole week and stay on top of basal rates, carb ratios, correction factors etc. That’s the thing with pumping – if only you could put in the hard work at the very beginning then sit with those ratios for all time – not so! I always knew I’d probably slacken off a bit after about 16 months of hard yakka and conscientious monitoring and record-keeping over my pregnancy and beforehand. Heck, I reckon I deserved the break. But, it’s now 12 weeks after my baby was born and I’m determined to put some systems in place to make sure I keep up a good…

I work in marketing these days and quite often when sitting in strategy sessions for client on various projects we talk about the concept of escaping from the daily grind. For a mother it might just be a case of sitting down with a cup of coffee for 10 minutes, for a guy it might be a fishing trip and for a couple it might be telling your mates that you’re out of the city for the weekend and hole-ing yourself up in your house in secret! The point is, everyone needs a break every now and again and diabetics are no different. Trouble is of course that we don’t get a break from our diabetes so what do you…
