The great thing about being pregnant most of last year was that the dreaded overnight BG spikes I was struggling with (which lead me to getting on the pump in the first place) disappeared. I’m not sure it was a complete win, because with all of the other pregnancy stuff all of the rest of your blood sugars go haywire… but I have to say – there is something doubly frustrating about going to bed with a perfect BG and waking up in the morning with a sky-high one. It just seems really unfair. During the day if you have a crazy spike you often blame it on food, exercise or stress (rightly or wrongly) – but I just get…

Well the grand CGMS trial of July 2008 has come to an abrupt end. After a lot of beeping in the night, then a hard core RPM class (spinning by another name) this morning, I got my twist ties at the ready and prepared for the shower routine in the changing room – only to find that the insertion was 3/4 of the way out. I have to give the unit back to the hospital this afternoon anyway so pulled it all the way out.

The good news is I got up this morning (at 5.20am, ouch) with a BM of 8.9 which is actually pretty good for me (despite the nurse who scolded me on the phone when my…

One of the main things which finally got me to set up this blog is that I’m finally on the road to an insulin pump.

I’ve been having all sorts of problems overnight lately (quite possibly dawn phenomenon) – going to bed with perfect 6-ish blood sugars and then waking up with BMs as high as 16 (one morning recently it was 19.9). Totally ridiculous, and so frustrating, when I’ve been making a huge effort during the day – taking 10 or so finger prick tests and micro managing my injections (I’m on Lantus as a basal and Humalog as short acting).

My last HbA1c came in at 7.8 which I was really cross about, especially after all the work…
