For me, good BG’s (blood glucose) management was an unachievable, depressing goal. Constant “Hypos” due to insulin overdose, constant “Hypers” from overcorrection of Hypos. It was the “swings and roundabouts” of insulin mismanagement that have cost me weight, muscle mass and my countenance. Depression set in and I began to give up.

I finally had coffee with Alfrey Bloom today, who is the girl I came across in the article about the DAFNE (Dose Adjusted for Normal Eating) program. She is that amazing example of someone who dropped their HbA1c from 10.5 down to 6.6 in JUST SIX MONTHS. (what the…??)

It was great to meet her actually. She’s five years younger than me and I wish I’d got my act together at her age – it took me a couple of years more to come to the realisation that ignoring my condition wasn’t going to help me out much in the long run. Alfrey had hit 10.5 (HbA1c) at age 24. I clocked a whopping 10.9 at 26.…
