Book review: Joe’s Rough Guide to Diabetes

Last week I mentioned a book I’d read about from a 23 year old guy in the UK who’d had type 1 diabetes since he was 13: Joe’s Rough Guide to Diabetes.

I promptly downloaded the e-book (which I encourage you to do, it was only about NZ$10) and set about reading it.

My review:

A very easy read, it only took me a few hours to finish it. Would be perfect if you have a teenager with type 1 diabetes. Loved the mantra he used, “I am my own best doctor” – so true! The ‘biology of diabetes’ bit

In my post about Joe’s Rough Guide to Diabetes I referenced an article which appeared in The Times.

While the intro was about a young guy who’s written the above book about his life since age 13 with diabetes, the lower part of the article goes into more detail about children with T1 and their parents. An excerpt from the article:

I’ve just gone online to order myself a copy of the book pictured to the right: Joe’s Rough Guide to Diabetes. I read an article about this chap about a week ago. He’s just graduated from university, and sounds like a switched on young guy who has a really good attitude to diabetes.
