It wasn’t until I was pregnant and had to avoid uncooked eggs that I realised how bad I am when I bake at  licking cake batter off my fingers. I’m fastidious about washing my hands frequently when baking or cooking though I’ll add!

As you can see from the pic on the right, I was baking up a storm last week as it was my son’s first birthday, and we had a party for him on Saturday (what you see isn’t even the half of it). You know how sometimes it’s the little victories that make the difference to your diabetes day?

Well, I had one of these on the weekend of the 20th September when I went hiking in the Laurentian mountains north of Montréal and, being quite chuffed with myself I wanted to share it with you all.

Sorry guys – this one’s not applicable to you. Ladies – I’d love to know what your answer to this question is (and I suspect the comments area is going to be more useful for this particular poll). I ask because I’m still trying to nail my approach to my own situation, which is huge spikes overnight for about a week of every month. My overall insulin resistance climbs too. So much so that I actually have two quite different basal patterns programmed in to my pump.

Wow. Canada.

It has been almost six full weeks since we left New Zealand now and what an eventful six weeks they have been!

I’ve already posted about our time in America and a little bit about the trip via Tahiti so it’s about time I get you all up to date with Canada!

Of course, the first couple of weeks were busy with lots of time spent basking in the 30+ degree heat and taking an initial look around town. Well hellloooo there BeingDiabetic friends! Spring hiatus is over, but unfortunately my Spring break is still underway [status update: cast comes off on Thursday, will then need to wear a brace thingee for a couple of weeks, but thankfully I'm back into typing with two hands and can even unclip my cannula on my own again!
