I was at the diabetes clinic a couple of weeks ago (twice in a week actually) to see the diabetes nurse and my then endo as happens once a year for the Dr and bi-annually for the nurse like the rest of you.

After twenty years of these visits and numerous Drs, nurses, dieticians others I had reached the point more than once of being quite fed up with it all. That said, I have to say that the team I have at the moment from the dietician to the specialist and the nurse are absolutely fantastic. I’ve not seen them that much yet because they are all relatively new and I only go once a year but what I…

Happy Easter Monday all – I hope you’re having a lovely break!

Back in late January, at a 30th birthday party, I got bitten on my foot by what we think was a whitetail spider. It was summer and I was in bare feet on grass so it perhaps wasn’t to be unexpected that I’d be bitten by something. We’re not 100% sure of the spider being the culprit but either way, the bite quickly turned into an interesting story which I thought was worth a blog!

I’m not too much of a fan of getting to the GP for every little niggle (which has of course landed me in trouble plenty of times) but no more than two days…

Hi all!

New week, new month, new season!

Pardon my absence for the last couple of weeks – I’ve been a bit crook and have been coming home from work completely knackered and quite incapable of doing much other than going straight to bed! Nic has been cranking out some awesome content though so I’m sure that you have hardly noticed

Having been sick, the last couple of weeks have been a struggle in terms of BGs and not just fatigue with, unsurprisingly, lots of fluctuations and heaps of hypos and highs as I’ve been trying to get the levels back under control. For a couple of weeks I thought I was just working too hard and not getting…

Hi all

Thanks to Lucy for sending me a couple of links on this stuff. Basically the subject I wanted to discuss today was diabetes complications, and your experience with them and possibly advice you have or advice which has been given to you on how to possibly prevent them. I know that having been a T1 for 15 years (and pretty wildly uncontrolled for about 60% of that time) as well as going through a pregnancy with T1, I am starting to head into the danger zone a bit with complications. And I know friends who are of similar ages and diabetes career lengths who have started to get minor complications. So it’s something I want to get familiar…

Well, I’ve ‘heard’ it all now (excuse the pun). Definitely not one of the ‘poster’ side effects of diabetes, but apparently the American Diabetes Association now has proof that hearing loss is one of the knock ons from poor glycaemic control. Boooooo.

I have to say that if I start going deaf I’m definitely going to blame all the time I spent working in bars and clubs (and frequenting them) in my 20s, and not some lame medical excuse. Viva la rock n roll.

I just had to write this post in my lunch break because it’s been distracting me from my work all morning. This comment actually outdoes the colostomy bag comment of 2008 I’m pleased to say (because that comment was made by a very dear friend of mine who was just being dopey and she was as upset about it as I was at the time).

I just met up with a rep from Animas because I’d enquired about looking at some alternative options for infusion sets. We went to a café down the road from my work (which will remain un-named). We were sitting there with our coffees plus a pile of different infusion…

Apparently diabetes is now responsible for more lower leg amputations than land mines.
