I was eating Mexican food last night  at Burritoville and ended up taking what I think is the biggest bolus I’ve ever had of 13 units! It got me wondering what the largest dose anyone has ever taken intentionally for food?

Any horror stories anyone?

I didn’t mention this earlier because I didn’t want it to overshadow all the great work DYNZ did for the conference, but did you see this story about the ex President of DYNZ getting 3 years jail for defrauding the organisation? He has hurt so many people, and created doubt in the mind of would-be benefactors of any diabetes charities. A horrid situation.

There were several articles on the news this week in Canada covering the withdrawal of the drug Avandia (generic name for the drug is rosiglitazone) from the UK and it’s heavy restriction in the USA following some research showing negative side affects of the drug, an oral medication taken by an estimated  2,000,000 people globally.

The reason for the removal of the drug from the UK market has been sited as being because of links between it “raised risks of heart attacks and heart failure” according this BBC article on the subject from 23rd September. The drug also appears to be being withdrawn from the European market due to the same fears.

Well hellloooo there BeingDiabetic friends! Spring hiatus is over, but unfortunately my Spring break is still underway [status update: cast comes off on Thursday, will then need to wear a brace thingee for a couple of weeks, but thankfully I'm back into typing with two hands and can even unclip my cannula on my own again!
