We had such a great catch up with everyone on Monday night at the BeingDiabetic dinner! It was one of those nights that if there weren’t kiddies that needed feeding and jobs that required sleep, we may well have ended up sitting in the restaurant till the wee small hours.

As you can well imagine (and as Nic mentioned in this post), whenever we meet, we all start catching up on what’s been happening with babies, jobs, husbands and wives and of course, diabetes. Some of these stories are absolutely hilarious, some shocking, some reminscing and some are best forgotten and with each new face comes a new story and some new laughs!

Last Saturday night, I was invited to what turned out to be an absolutely AMAZING meal at a friends house here in Auckland. At the risk of sounding like a 60’s house wife, I love a good dinner party and this one proved to be the golden standard

It was one of those dinner parties where everyone got along, the house was cosy and homely, the conversation flowed, the food was incredible and the atmosphere overall was as good as it could possibly have been. At the BeingDiabetic dinner on Monday night (thanks by the way people, it was another top one) we were swapping “war stories” of when we were diagnosed.

The question “what was your BG when you were diagnosed” arose: one of the girls had clocked up a FIFTY EIGHT mmol/l!!!! Unbelieveable. Mine was 21. What was yours?

Eyjafjallajokull. (Yes, I copied and pasted this from a news article). I can’t spell it, let alone pronounce it. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last week, this is the Icelandic volcano which has caused most of European travel to come to a standstill. And it’s still going.

I’ve got a few friends who’ve been personally affected. One very good, London-based friend has been counting the sleeps for her two week NZ holiday for absolute months now. She was due to fly out to NZ last Friday. The airways in the UK were shut late Thursday. At this point she has been told she must wait til 3 May to possibly get another flight. She was due…
