Morning all!

As this publishes I’ll be making my way to the airport with husband and son to get down to Diabetes New Zealand’s 2010 conference and 48th AGM, where I’ll be operating as MC.

I’m looking forward to it…. it’s always great to meet up with the people who are making things happen for us in this country, and of course to meet other diabetics or caregivers/family members of people with diabetes. So much to learn, so many stories to recount, so many people who UNDERSTAND.

The general run of events as follows:

Improving Wellbeing – How Diabetes Societies can contribute to productivity and economic growth – Suzanne Snively, Partner, PriceWaterhouseCooper

I was listening to George FM in the car on the weekend and in one of the gaps came this annoying advert about some restaurant by a guy in a very heavy accent. Because it was so annoying though,it had my immediate attention. I initially couldn’t understand large parts of it because the accent of the voice talent was so strong but lucky for me, by the time that I got home I’d heard it no less than three times and as it turns out, it was worthwhile listening to for a change!

The NZ Herald had an article today about the fifth NZ patient doing Prof Elliott’s pig cell trials for T1.

Simon Bilton (pictured) had the highest dose of pig cells of these trials, and reports that he’s seen the end of his hypo unawareness, but the rest of the outcomes of the trial will be noticeable in about a month.

While I was typing this post, TV One did a piece on the 6 o’clock news…. when it comes up on OnDemand I’ll post it below.

EDIT: Here is the link to the One News item: http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/pig-cells-new-hope-diabetes-patients-2-55-video-3495663

On with the letter – would love to have your comments.

Hi

Bret Michaels. Photo from stuff.co.nz

I was into a bit of glam rock back in the 80s, when I was a kid. I remember “Unskinny Bop” from Poison, and remember rocking out to it in the car, going somewhere with Mum. Can’t say I’ve been following the reality show “Rock of Love” which stars the guy to the right, Bret Michaels though. For those of you not in the know, Michaels is both lead singer from the aforementioned band Poison, and a fellow T1 (he’s had it since he was a kid, apparently).

I see from stuff.co.nz on the weekend that this poor chap has just been admitted to hospital for
