In early February, I posted about Ruth Hill’s Application for Funding to the Ministry of Health for funding for insulin pumps and/or their consumables.

I know loads of readers from this blog have submitted letters, because Ruthie tells me a lot of you used the template I provided. Nice work!

The application has now been completed, and in Ruth’s words:

I received an email from a new reader of the blog last week. Tania is an incredibly strong woman who’s had more than her fair share of challenges in life, including – two years ago – the diagnosis of T1 diabetes. Hi all,

It seems from first-hand experience that there is a nasty gastro bug going around at the moment. After a night out on Friday and then a lovely breakfast with Flash, Nic (and her new meter) on Saturday morning I went off home to do a massive gardening effort with the flatties.

Gardening went incredibly successful save that about half way through it I went hypo and it was all on. I managed to get the hypo fixed but that didn’t stop the vomiting from taking hold and so it was for the next 9 hours until I landed in A&E hypo from the shock and unable to get my BGs back up for 1 hour…

My little boy Hugo is now 5.5 months old, and in the last week I’ve been treated to six nights with him sleeping right through the night. Hurrah! I think it’s not til you actually start to get some sleep back that you look back and wonder how you did all those night time feeds in the first place (there were definitely times when I felt totally exhausted and zombie-like, that’s for sure…. but you just keep on trucking).

My last update of motherhood with T1 was at the eight week post-birth mark. My sugars were largely under control and when people asked me how my diabetes had been post-birth, I’d smile and genuinely…
