One thing I’ve learnt as a Mum-in-training is that when the baby goes to sleep, you have a small window of time to get things done. Ultimately I’ll get distracted by something online (usually something to do with this blog) then will realise I’ve used up 20mins and have a max of 40mins to get whatever I was planning to do, done.

In yesterday’s case, that was: having a shower and doing a new site insertion. Simple as it may sound, there are some days it takes me til midday to get in the shower, depending on what’s happening baby-wise (I often use his first sleep of the day to go for a walk before it gets too hot).

I got my mountain of Mentos yesterday (see pic!). I’m thinking my time is probably limited on eating sweets to get out of a hypo (seeing as my son is only 3 months). I imagine it would be pretty difficult for a child to understand that “Momma needs to eat sweets” when they are not allowed. This is when the more clinical-looking glucose tablets come in I guess.

I have already eaten half a pack thanks to a 2.8 after my walk this morning. I think that quite possibly cancels out the walk. Ho hum.

When I got my new pump, Aaron was over and asked me if I was going to give it a name (Aaron and Andy name everything in their lives – their cars, even the different vege plants in their garden – it’s very cute). It hadn’t actually occurred to me prior to that conversation, and given that I’d had a baby about two weeks earlier I found myself a little devoid of ideas.

“Arnie!”, exclaimed my husband. We all spun around to look at him, none of us figuring out why you’d call your insulin pump Arnie.

“Because it’s pumping and pumping and pumping”, he said (in a bad Austrian accent).
