Great news for those who live in Auckland and fancy a special sorbet treat!
I’ve been on Twitter today with the guy who runs Giapo gelato and sorbet shop by the Civic on Queen St. On Wed 20th at 1pm he is going to re-create his super low sugar mint sorbet for us all (he’s done it once before and reckons it was about 2% carbs only, barely made a dent in the T1’s sugars he trialled it with)
I’m gonna be there – are you?
Details:
When: 1pm, Thurs 21st October*
*please note, the date has been edited, was originally Wed
Where: Giapo, 279 Queen Street (next to the Civic Theatre)
Sorry to non-AKL readers, but if we can get some popularity behind this maybe he’ll distribute further!

I was fortunate to be one of the guinea pigs last week and got to watch it being made, which was half of the fun. To watch the science experiment would be well worth the trip alone.
Last week it was a lemon sorbet, which did have some carbs in it, but they were negligible. Lemon juice is typically 5g/100ml and this was diluted down to around 1g/100ml. Since it was so low in cho, my sugars barely rose when tested.
There was no artificial sweetner involved, in fact, no other additives were involved. The process that Giapo used meant nothing else needed to be. And gosh it tasted good.
It will be good to see other come along as most importantly is was fun.
Cheers

Oh if only I could get there. Maybe there will still be some when I am able to get there.
Sorbet is so often full of sugar, the idea of sorbet with minimal carbs and without artificial sweeteners mmmm….

Fascinating reading. Thanks for that Sarah.
I would think this sorbet could be very popular – there’s enough people out there who would like it. If this man could get it down to Nelson I’ll be there to buy it!
maybe he could come to the Nelson Saturday morning market and make it there…
