We’ve had discussion on this before, but I thought I’d throw it out there as a poll:

Funny you should have this as your poll this week, was just thinking the other day that we need a name change… so sick of trying to explain to people that I am not being naughty when I have juice for hypos. People go into a big spiel, and I just don’t have the energy to correct them at that particular moment. But later I thought, they are 2 completely different diseases, let’s call them different things, please.

I would not support a name change. T1 numbers are small in the bigger diabetes picture, but numbers are what call the shots in the health budget. Pumps and comsumables seem currently to be viiewed as a more expensive method of MDI, yet the evidence is opposite and some countries with similar populations provide them free of charge, because of the benefits further down the road of complications and some of these have full user pays health systems.
I would be worried that a name change would suggest seperation and that could be costly to us all, eventually.

sick of ill-educated people forming wrong opinions..

I bet people who get lung cancer from passive smoking or some other cause (like asbestos exposure) feel just as frustrated with the Public At Large and their Ignorance. There must be lots of similar scenarios. So I don’t think we’re alone on that one.
Think of the resources that would have to go into re-naming globally. And what happens when all the variant causes are ultimately discovered? There’ll be hundreds of types and sub-types and mixes and matches, it would be even more complicated and confusing then!
So better to spend the resources educating and researching?
Well that’s my 2 cents.

just because you rename something it doesnt mean people are going to understand it any better
