In a total David vs Goliath scenario last night, this little website beat all of its competitors to take out the Netguide Best Lifestyle Site award!! I found out last night by text message (I had been offered free tickets at the last minute but opted instead to come home and pack my bags and get ready for the DYNZ conference) and many hours later I am still shocked!
To put this into perspective, the winners of the other categories are the likes of TVNZ , Telstra Clear, The Warehouse, Mighty Ape, Stuff.co.nz and Google. Does the song “one of these things is not like the other ones” spring to mind?
Overall, the out-take from this is that you lot are the most loyal group of readers Aaron and I could have. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Edit: the full winners list has been published here.

Very well deserved. Congratulations!!!!!!! You have done an amazing job in providing info, support and many laughs for all of us. I know for me personally I felt so alone before I found beingdiabetic and now I have a huge bunch of people I can relate to and share all my ups and downs with. Good luck this weekend.

People, thank you all so much for your awesome comments and your votes. What a brilliant community. I’ve just talked to a friend of mine in media planning and the two sites we beat have 85x and 54x as many visitors every month, so you can appreciate how big a win this is. Just goes to show – if we speak with one voice we can make things happen. We really need to translate this into our lobbying of government etc don’t you think?

I join with everyone and offer my congrats: to you and Aaron and I look forward to his posts from the home of our life giving magic elixir. I know that the trip to Rotovegas and the conference would have been taxing by themselves, but if I might say and you can call me old fashioned, I think you should have taken the tickets and gone to the awards, if only to wallow in a well deserved night of glitz and fame.

Roy, if you had offered to be my date for the ball, Cinderella would have put on her gown

Well shucks Nic, if I had only known. And to think, I brought a fresh pumpken on Thursday as well and it more than likely still has its fairy godmother enclosed, which means, you would have been out of there and on your way to Rotovegas right on the last stroke of midnight. Good on yah!
