Hi all
I got this in my email a few weeks ago and have been meaning to publicise it. Diabetes Youth New Zealand has the John McLaren Youth Awards every year, and there are four $1000 prizes up for grabs. I’ve put a copy of the application form here for you to download for yourselves or on behalf of your kids. Unfortunately this is only available for under 25s. Applications close October 31st.
More about the award, taken directly from the application form:
THE JOHN McLAREN YOUTH AWARD is our yearly Achievement Award for Youth with Diabetes. This Award recognises the pursuit of excellence in the cultural, academic, and sporting fields by young people with diabetes, and seeks to encourage youth with diabetes that they can achieve their goals despite having this condition. If anyone with diabetes, up to the age of 25 years, has achieved in any field, please do not hesitate to apply.
The primary purpose of the award is to provide financial assistance to youth with diabetes that will enable them to attend sporting, academic, and cultural events at a national and international level. Award money may be used for such things as travel, training, equipment, accommodation, entry fees such as those required for attending tertiary education institutions for post-graduate studies.

Kids with diabetes makes them standout from other kids and dont most of the kids know it, from sleep overs to sports
My son has trouble having sleep overs at mates houses since getting diabetes as other kids parents now dont want to know about it
Also my son stands out while playing sports having to run off the playing field during rugby to check his levels
So how many other kids feel like this ,I guess 90% if not more
What im looking at doing for kids with diabetes is setting up a website just for kids, where they can talk to others , post there levels for the day so there really challanging other kids
helping them to raise funds to buy a pump and to support them with on going costs
photos of a child can also be posted so someone may want to help them raise funds and will show there progress in this
im currently looking at setting up a trust account for the kids so all funds will go into this ,and will send off forms each month to charities for funds to be given to each child
eg companies which will show there company logo on website as a supporter
My aim is to try and get 2 kids a month a pump to help manage their days and to help with monthly cost to all kids
So im currently trying to find people to help with
setting up trust account
website design
backing and support
many thanks
