flu and diabetes As you might be able to tell from the picture on the right, I’ve been a bit crook this week and it’s not been very pleasant to say the least!

Add to that chest infection however, moving house, a small claims court case and a family member being gravely ill, my partner getting masters results in and trying to get ready to finish up at work and you have a whole heap more stress than I care to have in my life!

The net effect of all of this (perhaps unsurprisingly) has been sleepless nights, incessant coughing, a couple of days off work and of course, terrible BGs that have taken no notice of my better efforts to keep them in check. Eventually, I got to the point that there wasn’t that much more I could do and that in the grand scheme of things, a week of horrendous control isn’t going to see my leg lopped off is it. So, I just gave in!

It’s strange, but each time I get sick there is this period just before it hits when my BGs go bonkers with random highs and lows left right and centre but I have never learnt to recognise the pattern till it actually hits and I say to myself, “that’s why!”. I don’t know if this is common but my theory is that it’s my body going into defense mode and deciding to pump out some extra glucose. Not particularly helpful for us diabetics!

On Friday, I managed to convince myself that a visit to the Dr was required and I left with a scalded ear, supply of insulin and a nice 7 day course of some hardcore antibiotics! I don’t feel better yet to be honest but I’m sure the light at the end of the tunnel is about to be switched on :)

From all accounts, I’m not alone on the sickness front – there is definitely something in the water because I know several friends have all been suffering to various degrees as well. I hope that none of you are among the casualties.

Have a good week guys.
