Like it or not, as insulin addicts, we are in a bit of a tight spot when it comes to the world markets. As those of us on Cozmo insulin pumps found out last year, market forces can have a profound effect on the availability of products we rely on to keep our diabetes under control.
The most recent example of this has sprung up in the last week, with insulin manufacturing giant Novo Nordisk deciding they won’t cut their prices for the Greek market, resulting in them stopping supply of “modern insulins”. I’ve had a bit of a search and I can’t see exactly which insulins though.

I’m just going to be super selfish for a moment here. Imagine that you’re a pregnant T1 in Greece and being told that your usual Novorapid and perhaps Levemir are going to be replaced with cr*ppy old Actrapid and Protophane. I shudder to think. Poor souls. I wish that it was easy to boycott them. But you’re right – they have us over a barrel. Like I said somewhere else, I’d considered the possibility of low stocks due to poor forecasting/border hold ups etc, but NEVER a company ditching its corporate social responsibility in such an overt way. Grrr NN Grrr.
