Last year in November I did a post about Natasha and her little 18 month old boy James, who needed an insulin pump to make managing his T1 easier on him and his parents. The great news is that the extended community has come to James’ aid and he now has an insulin pump, which is making his life and his parents’ so much more manageable.
According to the article on stuff.co.nz:
Pharmaceutical company Roche contacted Natasha after the story ran offering them the pump for a discounted price of $6000.
The Onehunga Centre Pharmacy also donated $1000 towards the purchase of the pump, after Variety Club previously granted them $4000 and Onehunga Plunket gave $1000.
There go the Variety Club again – thanks again guys! And great to hear Roche, Plunket and the local pharmacy chipped in. Isn’t he just a little cutie – if only the headline the Central Leader used were completely true, “Generous help sees James beat diabetes”. Definitely a step in the right direction as far as his parents are concerned, just a shame an insulin pump doesn’t ‘beat diabetes’ altogether. Keep up the good work, James.

That is a nice story – yay for those groups coming to James’ assistance
And very styley in blue…
I’d love to know more about how a family manages a little person on a pump – there must be some trickery involved in stopping the kids pulling on the tubing – I know that I’m constantly removing my little person’s hands from mine!

Me too, Saffy – little hands and feet constantly getting tangled in the cord, and he’s not even at the point yet where he’s actively grabbing it

This is awesome. I can’t imagine the relief obviously but that said, imagine the relief for that family.
Go Roche, go the pharmacy, go plunket and go Variety.
