I was reading Nic’s post this weekend called ‘Devil in the Pantry‘ about trying to resist the temptation of eating the jar of Nutella and it got me thinking about what, out of all things that sit in my pantry from time to time I have absolutely no self control over. That is, if it’s there, it’s gone regardless of how much insulin I have to pump in.
This may seem strange but for me the list is…ahem:
- Ice-cream cones
- Caramello chocolate
- Turkish delight
- Lemon flavoured glucodin tablets
- Rasberry licorice – yum
There are a couple of others on this list of mine too I have to admit but what about you guys?
What items, good or bad, totally annihilate your self-control? Parents, what do your kids get up to when you’re not looking?

Oh man…. too many to mention. The worst is if we’ve had people over, I’ll often buy some Favourites choccies, and inevitably there are some left over, just sitting in a bowl on the counter. They’ll be the least popular ones (and not even my faves) but one by one they’ll slowly disappear!

Ferrero Rondnoir!! Too Yummy
A lady I do homehelp for, swears that her Diabetes was caused by the King Size block of Caramello choc she ate after the birth of her last child… She was 43 when he was born and shes 78 now ……

Things just vanish from my pantry. I’ve thought of using a syringe to inject black food colouring or some horrible flavouring into the centre of a Tim Tam just to see who it is….but it could be all 3 living at home or one/both of the daughters who visit so I’m not sure its the same culprit each time. I can open a box of chocs and just take one out every few days…but apparently its not normal to make a box of chocs last more than a day so they usually vanish as well. This lot will eat anything that is not nailed down!
Food has controlled our family for over 17 years – starting way back when we had to force feed a toddler to match her insulin. I’ve learned to hate food; eating it, hate shopping for it, paying for it, cooking it, cleaning up after it….hate everything about food! Now as an ‘older’ person, I hate that just looking at food will put weight on.
I have reasonable self control and can go all day without eating if I have plenty to do.
My husband however, is quite the opposite. He eats when he’s bored and as he’s home on sick leave VERY bored, and as his meds have to be taken with food, once again I feel like food controls my life and I hate it. I hate that he likes me to eat with him.
Mind you, having said that, as long as there’s Pam’s Cookies and Cream ice cream in the world I’ll never again be 55 kg.
Rant over ( I just ate a pie – yuk, but that’s what he wanted for lunch!)

Interesting stuff folks, I can only adhere to Chris’s cookies, the rest would would finish it I should think. I don’t know what Jane’s Ferrero Rondnoir is but it sounds sugary. I used to do it with (don’t laugh it all becomes glucose), dates, prunes and dried apricots, not all at once. I can still do it with stone fruit, but don’t bother with this anymore, to expensive now.
Caramello chocolate and Turkish delight? Your having us on Aaron?

Ferrero Rondnoir are not sweet at all – just real dark chocolate. They are only 5 carbs each so Rachel gets one as a treat after a site change
