Tomorrow, the 13th February, is my diabetes’ 19th birthday!
There won’t be too big a celebration because we’ll be at a wedding in Manukau but I will quietly have a large coke, some lollies, an ice cream, several beers, some bacon with cheese and a great big dose of insulin to celebrate!
O.K., maybe not but I will take a moment to reflect on the fact that 19 years ago as a 8 year old I was told by a doctor that I would “have to have multiple injections every day for the rest of my life” (my parent’s weren’t there either). I also remember my exact response too – “Oh well“. I’m certain that I didn’t quite get the implications right on the spot but it hasn’t worked out so bad.
Have a good weekend people!

P.S. The following day, Valentines Day, was also the first time I got a Valentine! It was a red rose and it was from my cousin but it still counted cos she was awesome

Happy Birthday! Enjoy the milestone. I go for my 6 monthly check at clinic today. I’ve had a sneak preview of my tests – all okay as far as I am concerned, but I guess i’ll get a flea in my ear about something! Cheers everyone, have a great day

19 not out – good work. 8 and no parents present? Here’s hoping paeds bedside manner has come some way.

It definitely has Saffy I’m pleased to say. I think my parents had something to say about that one at the time but I never knew anything about it. Bit of a blunder to be sure but I’m not too damaged! (just my opinion though…)
