Very interesting, Linda - I think we will take a while to get to that level of sophistication here in NZ. We have similar sort of laws around drinking, I believe you can't even have an open vessel with alcohol in it in the car, nor can you walk to your car with the keys in your hand even if just to get something out of it if you're intoxicated.... again it signals intent.

Here, in Canada....it doesn't matter what's in your hand. If it's distracting and causes an accident, you'll be fined. The fine for texting/cell phones etc is $500. You're better to pull over and test on the side of the road or parking lot.
Also, in this country, if you're testing your BG in your car, not only must you have pulled over, but you have to physically remove yourself from the driver's seat. This, I suppose, to demonstrate that you have enough presence of mind to recognize that there is a concern and that you shouldn't be driving.

I don't know about while driving, but at work one day I was working back lab and i had tested mine it was a little high and at that time I was on the pump, so I pulled my pump out to bolus and my boss came back there and tried to get me in trouble for it...first she thought it was my phone! then when i showed her it was my pump she still tried to say something about it. But hey I will get in trouble anyday to correct a high BS and take care of myself!!

I love the old driving with one hand holding the finger pricker, the other hand streering with a finger being pricked. Machine wedged between the thighs. Safe as houses! Never done it myself of course.

I love the way you make testing sound like such a tempting treat, Sarah.... but I know exactly what you mean! Better to be testing and catching any hypos before they happen though, right?
