We have similar sort of laws around drinking, I believe you can't even have an open vessel with alcohol in it in the car, nor can you walk to your car with the keys in your hand even if just to get something out of it if you're intoxicated.... again it signals intent. If it's distracting and causes an accident, you'll be fined. The fine for texting/cell phones etc is $500. You're better to pull over and test on the side of the road or parking lot. Also, in this country, if you're testing your BG in your car, not only must you have pulled over, but you have to physically remove yourself from the driver's seat. This, I suppose, to demonstrate that you have enough presence of mind to recognize that there is a concern and that you shouldn't be driving. Here, in Canada….it doesn’t matter what’s in your hand. But hey I will get in trouble anyday to correct a high BS and take care of myself!!
