Hi all
I had a reader request by email regarding pumping and sensitive skin:
“I’m going back on a pump and the last 2 attempts have ended badly with me reacting to the tape on the adhesive on the sets. Do you reckon you could do a post at some point to see if anyone else has the same issue? And if they do, what do they do to get around it? I can’t be the only slightly freaky T1 out there … surely?
”
Do any of you have advice out there? I know we talked about this once before and Shannon gave this advice:
You could use a tape called fixative which has a fluffy side to it. The idea is to put it on and then put normal micropore tape over top so it sticks to the fixative tape. Its good for sensitive skin as you dont take the fixative tape off as often as you do if you just use the micropore.
Anyone else got any advice for this reader please?

Can you change the type of Infusion set you are using, some of them have quite different tapes. Rachel seems to react to some and not others. We don’t put anything over the set (Tegaderm or similar) as Rachel reacts to that. I have some wipes called ‘AllKare’ which are a protective barrier wipe which may help.. I’m happy to share.

I haven’t seen the tape, but I do know that a lot of tape contains latex. Could this be the case and maybe you have (or are developing) a latex allergy?
