I got my mountain of Mentos yesterday (see pic!). I’m thinking my time is probably limited on eating sweets to get out of a hypo (seeing as my son is only 3 months). I imagine it would be pretty difficult for a child to understand that “Momma needs to eat sweets” when they are not allowed. This is when the more clinical-looking glucose tablets come in I guess.
I have already eaten half a pack thanks to a 2.8 after my walk this morning. I think that quite possibly cancels out the walk. Ho hum.

I have that same ‘mountain’, as does another T1 friend and we’re making bets on how long it lasts – hopefully past next November’s expiry date?… might be wishful thinking!

I hadn’t thought about the difficulties of having to eat without necessarily feeding a small child at the same time. Thats going to take a lot of explaining and patience I imagine – good luck!

They look good!! I use only mentos as my hypo treatment and I would have loved to get in on the deal but I don’t have access to the internt during my work day!! And it was all over by the time i saw your message. Do you know if they will do it again or are you able to arrange a deal?? I would love to buy in bulk at those prices.
In relation to your coment about eating lollies in front of children, I had to do this today!! I was about to take a group of four year olds for their special four year old time when I felt my self going low again!! (the seond time and it was only 1:30!) So I quickly grabed a mini roll of mentos from my preschool hypo stash in the cupboard as i ran out the door to the garden (No time to test but decided high would still be better that low if i was wrong about the symptoms!!) But getting back to the kids, it didn’t take long for an egale eyed 4 year old to say “Why do you have gum??” I responsed with” It’s not gum, i just need to put some sugar in my body, so I can get through the games with you!!” They accepted this and no more was said!! That’s the first time thats happened through so it might not get off so easy another time, but on the whole i find children are quite accepting and if offered an explation they don’t always expect to be given something just because they see you eating a ‘treat’ food. One rule for adults another for children!!

Good to hear! If you sign up for emails from http://www.1-day.co.nz you’ll find out when they have Mentos on again, they’ve done a couple of these sales now from what I was told… you just need to keep an eye on it.

I had a 4th birthday party for my son and a 3-year-old party guest cleaned out my little box of jelly beans in my handbag. Probably my fault for making it a low-sugar party! I do find my hypo stash useful for bribing my sons (come one, just two more blocks, I’ll give you a green jelly bean when you get there!) It does send out confusing messages though – how come is Mummy’s medicine so delicious? And do blood testing sticks taste good too? Funnily enough the boys have an innate aversion to my pens.
