…. so what do we call this decade? If last one was the noughties, and the following one is the 20s, what is this one coming up? The teens?

It’s been a great year for BeingDiabetic. Visitor numbers have quadrupled, the community is growing and getting stronger, and we’ve had several face-to-face meetings (albeit only in Auckland and Nelson so far but it’s a start!). Keep up the awesome work everyone, and thanks again for being a great, interactive audience willing to help each other out.

On a personal note it’s been a pretty full-on year too and one I’m really proud of from a diabetes point of view. Only you lot (and maybe our partners to a degree) know…

Well, it’s that time of year again when every magazine and newspaper you pick up is doing some sort of year in review, so I thought it only fitting that I do one for beingdiabetic.co.nz.

It seems that overall the classic rap about diabetes done by some friends of ours over in the United States was what captured your attention the most, with I.A.M.D.I.A.B.E.T.I.C getting the top spot for 2009. Four of the top ten were about BG meters (and it’s no wonder, these little gadgets get more use than our phones some days), and there were a couple in there of community interest plus one about pregnancy.

… and I’m tired, thirsty and have a heck of a headache – how did this happen? I’ve got no idea, except that when I programmed in a correction bolus my pump suddenly signalled a blockage – wish it had signalled it a couple of hours ago!! I was thinking about what I’d do if I won a significant amount on Lotto, when I bought my ticket on Saturday (which I’ve not checked yet so you may be reading the musings of a millionaire by now). Depending on how much I won, some of the things on my list of purchases were a CGMS, the best insulin pump money can buy, a bunch of insulin pumps to give away to…

In a previous post, I mentioned a painful incident involving one rushing diabetic (me), a door handle and an insulin pump cord. After that I vowed to tape a loop to my stomach from there on in to prevent my site being ripped out, causing pain and further expense – especially now that I have a young one with kicking legs and curious hands (it’s only going to get worse).

Lovely Jane -  who is a regular reader of this blog – sent me a package in the post containing a Unomedical Tubeguard. I just got a chance to try it out today for the first time, and it seems…
