I got an email today which went as follows:

I wonder if you would know who to contact for help with eating disorders (mainly binge eating disorder). An eating disorder is bad enough but combined with diabetes is even worse.

I have wasted money on a psychologist before (it was a waste of money – at about $100 / appointment it was a big waste), I don’t think he had a clue. I am about to try another one to see if she can help but I know its not her favourite area or work.

Can you or anyone recommend anyone that may be able to help in the Tauranga area?

All I can recommend is based on going to…

I’d be interested to hear from you parents out there as to just how many months/years into your child having diabetes you were brave enough to leave them with a babysitter who wasn’t an immediate family member. I can imagine the worry would be one factor, but the sheer amount of information and training you have to give someone in order for them to be able to manage your child’s diabetes must almost put you off altogether. Dependent on the age and ability of the child in question, of course. (that’s why diabetes camps must be such a god-send sometimes).

Anyway – not being a mother of a diabetic myself I saw this guide to lining up a babysitter for…

Thanks to Ruth who forwarded me this article, and to Natasha for speaking out about this issue.

I’ll let you read the article for yourself, but in summary, Natasha (from Auckland) has an 18 month old son who has to have 12 injections a day. That just about breaks my heart in itself. Natasha has spoken out about the lack of funding for insulin pumps and consumables.

Natasha – there’s a great community of people on here so please let us know if there’s anything we can do to help. If you want help fundraising I’m willing to cook sausages outside The Warehouse or bake cakes… and can make a donation…

Hi guys, I had this question come through in the comments from Ruthie and wondered if anyone can help?

Just a quick pump question for y’all … do any of you get scarring from your cannula sites? If so, have any of you found a treatment/cream that helps to make the scars go away or alternatively, a better way to inject the cannulas to avoid this?  eg. 90 degree insertion versus angled … I’m using angled insertion and just wondering if 90 degree insertion makes a difference?  Atlernating my sites doesn’t make any difference.  Thanks in advance for any advice.  :). I came across this article in my travels today.

Whenever I’m feeling hard done by with my diabetes, I should read this article again. This POOR GIRL. To summarise, she has a very rare form of diabetes. For some reason the insulin she gets given “was being bound to the antibodies, stored and then released later, causing her blood sugar to plummet”. It’s a one in 6.7 billion condition (how they get these numbers I don’t know) and she’s spent two YEARS in hospital. That poor, poor girl.
