4 years ago I brought a 1987 Toyota Corolla from my uncle cos I’d just got back from living in Paris, really needed a car but only had a $1000.

It was in awesome nick cos he was a mechanic and had looked after it really well but the downside of this car was that  it still had the original stereo in which unfortunately only has an a.m. radio in it – no tape player, no FM radio either. Now, while originally disappointed by this I quickly discovered that I could receive BBC world service on 810AM (in Auckland) which regularly feeds my brain with interesting facts, programs and news. Without this little gem I actually don’t think I’d know…

Oh dear, I’m glad I don’t live in Victoria, Australia.

Came across this article today:

The Victorian government has launched a dramatic television advertisement to encourage people at high risk of contracting type two diabetes to seek help.

The ad, screening on television on Sunday, features a woman rising from a swimming pool to reveal a partly amputated leg.

The article goes on to talk about how it’s a campaign to highlight the risks of type 2 diabetes and  how there’s a program in place that ‘works towards weight loss of at least five per cent and 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity per day’.

…. all of which is really great to see (that they’re helping out type…

Hi guys,

I was saying to Nic earlier today that I’ve not been writing much for the blog lately but to be honest, it’s because I’ve not had a lot to say! Nic has been busy pumping out lots of cool stuff so I just sat back and chilled out.

Today though something interesting did happen which I thought was worth telling you about so this is the story. Ahem.

Hi all

I was talking to the Vice President of Diabetes Youth New Zealand this week (Christine Murray) and she was telling me about the Diabetes Youth New Zealand conference this year – being held in Nelson on August 21-23. I actually saw this advertised a couple of months ago and thought I’d like to go, but I’m not going to be able to attend this year for one reason or another.

Anyway, I had a look at the program and it looks really great, whether you consider yourself a youth or not, so I thought I’d paste it here:

SATURDAY 22ND AUGUST
Visit Nelson’s famous Market from 8am
9.45am Opening Ceremony
10.00am Xenotransplantation progress: Professor Bob…
