One of my favourite parts of writing this blog has been to meet a few of you out there who are reading it and hearing your stories. Over the last couple of months I’ve been getting to know a chap from Paraparaumu named Chris, who regularly reads the blog and gives his perspective on things. Chris, too is on a pump. What I love about getting Chris’ perspective is that he comes from an entirely different generation to me. Here is his story, in his words. (Thanks Chris).

I am a 70-year old male who joined the Royal New Zealand Navy at the age of 15 where I remained for 29 years. When I left, I…

When I was at camp, I was speaking to one of the pump reps about the type of cannula/infusion sets which are out there on the market. I’ve been using the Cleo infusion set (see image on the left) ever since I started pumping, and all in all it’s been great. I’ve had a couple of whoopsies with it coming out or not sticking properly when I do a site change. However, since using Skin Tac wipes with every site change, that hasn’t been as much of a problem.

Are you lot familiar with the site http://www.1-day.co.nz ? Basically every day (i.e for 24 hours) they have three deals – you can buy stuff online for that price or before it sells out, and when 24 hours is up the deal is off the table and you get three new deals. Apparently these marshies are best before 23 March so I don’t think I’ll be partaking – but with the amount of hypos I have of a week I reckon I could knock off at least a pack a week.

Hahaha… hope you like the title of this blog. I don’t know who refers to sex these days as ‘humping’, but it suited my purpose.

I have to admit that one of the things I wondered about when I went on a pump was how to manage my way around the more ‘intimate moments’ that life brings about. It’s not something you find much info on nor something you would probably ask your specialist. However, having been with my partner at that point for 5+ years (and married for a handful of months), I threw caution to the wind and signed up for a pump inclusive of all the situations I might find myself in, including sex.

Being a Kiwi,…

I just came across this article titled “Coming soon, tattoos to control diabetes”. It’s a little misleading because the article is about having a tattoo which could indicate by its colour whether your BG is high, moderate or low (or thereabouts). Pretty crazy stuff, although it wouldn’t obviously replace the need to have a blood glucose meter.

I could have done with this over the last two hours when I thought I was sitting pretty in the mid 6’s and somehow shot up to 13.7 with no warning or apparent reason. So now I’m sitting here while everyone else has lunch and I have to wait for my BG to get down to a respectable level –…
