Hi everyone
This is going to sound like a really stupid question, but do any of you get lancets on prescription? I’ve been back from the UK for three years now and have always just assumed for some reason that you have to pay full price for these.
Just thinking…. I’ve always been a bit stingy with how much I change mine, but if I followed recommendations (change every eight tests) I’d be spending at least $1 a day on mine.
Thoughts?
Cheers
Nic

Not sure how I get mine?
I change them about once a year (only kidding). Haha. Maybe I should change them more due to my Blood Testing OCD

I used to be a bit like that (and am still pretty slack), but seeing these pics changed my mind a bit: http://www.beingdiabetic.co.nz/?p=125

Our Dr once told me to stick a lancet in or on each box of strips, and then we’d change it at least every 50 tests. wE use the MultiClix now and I roll it around whenever I remember.

well I have lost my pricker for about a month or two…lose track, and have been stabing my finger with my pen needle.
This really works for me, as it damages the needle quite quickly (bends etc) causing me to need to change it more often than i would have naturally for injecting of finger pricking.
My lancet is in my car…..somewhere……may be a good new years resolution…find finger pricker.
Those pictures are interesting tho……

My understanding is that you can’t get lancets on prescription in NZ, it is one of the only things that is not funded, but a box of 17 multiclix lancets each lancet containing 6 changed and costing around $27.50 and that lasts about 11 months, changing the lancet every day with the multiclix system.

Yeah, it’s by no means the most expensive thing but I just wondered if other people were getting them on prescription…. thanks for that Alicia. By my maths though, 17 x 6 = 102, meaning that you need to spend around $90 a year if you change them daily. That’s nothing compared to pump consumables!

I have never come across anyone who changes their lancets as often as is recommended so we are not alone with this one. I change only when the lancet will no longer pentrate my skin easily! Lancets are not covered under the schedule BUT a new meter on the market is providing free lancets with their test strips, so if you are up for a new meter, that might be a reason to change.

i meant to say that we change our daughters lancet every 3 days, so that means about $50 year for lancets. however we start our little girl on a pump on wednesday so the consumables for that will surely send us to the poor house.

Oh, good luck with the pump start for your daughter, Alicia!
