Hi guys, I had this question come through in the comments from Ruthie and wondered if anyone can help?
Just a quick pump question for y’all … do any of you get scarring from your cannula sites? If so, have any of you found a treatment/cream that helps to make the scars go away or alternatively, a better way to inject the cannulas to avoid this? eg. 90 degree insertion versus angled … I’m using angled insertion and just wondering if 90 degree insertion makes a difference? Atlernating my sites doesn’t make any difference. Thanks in advance for any advice. :). Ruthie

Here’s a reply from Sianne:
Hi Ruthie
Macro E Cream is really good, recommended by my pump rep

Different types of infusion sets may help

I’m really lucky and don’t scar at all. Not sure if this is due to 90 degree insertion or just by chance. I usually have a red spot for a few days but it goes away without a trace…How long have you been pumping Ruthie? Do you scar badly in other areas ie mosquito bites etc? Maybe you just have sensitive skin? Quite perplexing, I’d love to know how you get on.

I too scarred when using the angled insertion cannulas. I now use 90 deg cannulas and am never left with a mark. Absorption is better for me with the 90 deg sets also. I don’t for one minute suggest this is THE answer because everyone is different but it might be worth a try.

I’ve never used angle ones, only 90 degree ones and have never had scarring. I have heard that with the angled ones it’s sometimes hard to get a consistent absorption because they sit at different depths depending on the angle…. but I don’t speak with any kind of authority.

Hi Ruthie,
It is a problem huh. I’ve had the same thing although not too bad and use 90 deg cannulas. I found the same cream Nic mentioned above good. Vitamin E is good for any scar tissue so you could try getting Vitamin E oil capsules, cutting them open and rubbing it in – that worked for me with some terrible scarring I had once.
The other thing I’ve heard that works well is looping and then taping the line to stop it getting tugged which contributes to scarring.
I hope this helps!

Aaron you talk about opening vitamin e oil capsules for scarring. In the last few years scarring has got bad for me so this is interesting to read. I will give it a go. Just wondering, were your scars old?
Re. the cannula sites I find that slowly they fade. Haven’t had any infections either. Am using the angular cannulas too.
