I’ve had a couple of quite big hypos in the night over the last week (a 2.2 and a 2.6). I noticed both times when I woke up and stumbled to get glucose that my tongue was feeling numb. Anyone else experienced this?

When my sugars get quite low – usually in the night – my tongue feels numb. My lips, too. This is rather recent, maybe the past year or two. I haven’t always had it. I’ve been diabetic for 35 yrs.

Interesting, thanks Sheri! Maybe we are just starting a new trend
– getting shaky on hypos is like, soooo 2008.

I used to get a numb sort of fizziness in my chin when I went hypo – now I get grumpy, headaches and feel nauseous – but the symptom I really hated was sweating, especially on my upper lip – as if having a hypo isn’t bad enough, I used to get so embarrassed about the sweating

Never hit this one before but Emma J, I’m definitely with you on the sweating! If I have a truly bad hypo I look like I’ve been in the tropics (or a shower). It’s horrible! That said, my symptoms change all the time. I used to get ravenous but now generally don’t. I remember eating a raw egg from the fridge in a stupor one night cos ‘it might help’.
It didn’t.

Yup, I’ve been victim to some horrendous sweating in past – the upper lip sweat’s pretty attractive ain’t it?!
I LOVE the story about the raw egg Aaron – you must have been SUPER low (or drunk as well?) to try that one out! Did you feel like Rocky afterwards?!

I’ve never tried a raw egg either! Over the years I’ve occasionally had numb lips and tongue with pins and needles, but is generally if I’ve dropped really low and not intervened early enough. It takes longer to bring the blood sugars up and during that time and feel pretty ghastly! Symptoms do seem to change over the years. I now just start feeling a bit vague and not able to concentrate – sometimes start feeling anxious. I’ve not experienced heavy sweating even with a very low low! I go very cold.
We are an interesting bunch – aren’t we!

Yip, I’ve had tingling lips and tongue symptoms for many years, in particular when I was young. Cold too, especially when I’m on the way up again. Have only every done the sweating thing once – I ended up having to sleep the rest of the night on towels! When I was able to get up off the bed you could see where I had been lying from head to toe!!
!!
We certainly have plenty in common
