Interesting to see that the Auckland District Health Board has already had to step in to help out Labtests with their takeover of the blood testing service which Medlab was doing previously…. oh dear. (See article here)
Has anyone tried out Labtests yet? I have to get a blood test this week – will let you know how I get on.

Update – the CEO of Labtests has been stood down today – http://tvnz.co.nz/health-news/labtests-ceo-stood-down-2989738. I just spoke to one of the girls at work. Her Mum had three attempts at having a fasting blood test done and had to wait 45mins each time which was too long for her to wait before getting to work…. I think she was finally successful on the third attempt.

I tried out Labtests this morning (the Brown St, Ponsonby one). I have to say my experience was all positive. In and out within 15mins, very clean and sterile, lovely girl taking my blood – all very efficient. It’s not lost on me that the problems are further up the chain than at the patient level (i.e I understand it’s more about the availability of the information and interaction with the health care providers) but as a patient I found the experience a lot nicer than the Medlab in Ponsonby I used to go to!

Hi
Last Monday I had the day off work and needed to get a bloodtest done. I thought they wouldn’t be too busy at about 2:30pm on a weekday so went down to labtests in Meadowbank. It took about 45 minutes to get the test done and there were only 2/3 people in front of me and 2 people taking blood. I got the feeling they didn’t know what they were doing. I had to ask the guy doing my test whether I needed a urine sample and he said “mmm let me check, yes you do”.
It was the little things too at Medlab they always put a pillow under your arm, here I had to balance my arm precariously on the funning slopy arm handles they had.
Also when my results came through the had a funny name for the person ordering them which wasn’t my nurse.
All in all not the best experience.
There were other people there who had been told some horror stories of long waits and bruising too. Bribg back DML

Further update – was talking to a nurse about Labtests yesterday and she was saying that they have been absolutely terrible…. so the complaints in the paper seem to match up. Where Medlab used to be very efficient with providing the reports efficiently, to the right people and in the right formats, it seems Labtests are failing dismally.
