At last someone who has put some serious effort into design for a meter. I honestly think that this is the most visually attractive meter that has been on the market since I was diagnosed and I am seriously thinking about getting one – cost aside. It’s a really sexy meter and no mater what we ppl say that is one of the things that matter.

Hmmmm…. It’s not as cut and dried for me as that. I agree with you that it’s definitely the nicest design I’ve ever seen for any diabetes product, and as an admirer of anything Mac, the aesthetics of a product normally sway my decision in a big way. However – in this case, I think the Freestyle Lite has two big advantages over the Nano – (1) the light that goes down the strip for night-time testing or testing in dark places like the cinema; and (2) it takes half the amount of blood – great I imagine if you’ve got T1 kids. A third point which annoys me about the Accu-chek is that if you don’t quite get enough blood on the strip the first time around, it gives you about 3 seconds to milk your finger and try to get more on there which normally isn’t enough time, so it throws an error message at you.
But – the Nano is sooooo good looking! I feel like I’m choosing between the hot athletic guy and the more dependable one who’s not as cute, but you’d happily take home to meet your Mum.

Ooh-er, fancy. I wonder if it comes in i-white too? I have to say, it’s much easier being discrete with your diabetes these days – everyone just thinks you’re fiddling with your phone. A few years ago I was in a french restaurant and the waiter tried to take my insulin pump off me to take a photo of us. I had to tell him it was not a camera, and please do not tear out my catheter!

Afterthought – there are other things I love about my Accu-chek that will need to be taken into consideration: the lancet is so much nicer than the Freestyle one (I know you can interchange but the cases are bespoke to fit the lancet and meter) and the Accu-chek case is a lot more sturdy and IMO better than the Freestyle Lite. Oh the decisions!

Totally agree Nic re the lancet and case. I have put my freestyle lite in to my Accu-chek case along with my Accu-chek lancet
Love having to only use a small drop of blood and a long time to add more blood if needed. I do find the figures small though and don’t like the fact that the first thing that comes up when you switch on the meter is the average. I like having my last BG come up but you can scroll to it.

Sianne – Ah cool that they fit, I’ll have to do the same when I finally exhaust all of my Accu-chek test strips. I agree with you re the average coming up first but figured it was probably just me getting used to something new…. discovered by accident that if you hit M and then C you’ll get the average and then start trawling back through your recent BGs starting with the most current and going back in time from there.
Sarah – just read your comment – classic about the camera – crikey that waiter would have got a bit of a fright. So far I’ve only had it mistaken for an MP3 player (and of course we’ve all heard the colostomy bag comment but that was just a moment of insanity really). The only problem with them looking increasingly like mobile phones etc is if you’re bolusing in a meeting, it looks super rude! (Who are you texting while I’m talking to you!)
I am still thinking about getting a Nano though….

All very valid points and I agree with you Nic about the light but I’m too vain to care enough not to get one and try it out. I’m going to ask Santa I think and see what comes my way…

Can you get the Nano’s now can you? How much are they?
