We had a fantastic trip to Melbourne, thank you very much…. to think that’s our last child free holiday in a long while…. not sure how long it will take me to get up the nerve to get on a plane with a little one – I was observing people wandering aimlessly up and down the aisles trying to calm their kiddies down while I luxuriated and watched a couple of movies – the last hurrah!

We had a really great holiday which was a mixture of busy and relaxed. The busy days were the first two, where we marched through the city like we were on a mission – shopping, going to galleries, getting trams and trains and walking for miles. Of course with the reduced stress from not being at work along with the added exercise, the hypos didn’t take long to show up. Thinking “a-ha, this is exactly what a pump does best!” I dialled down the coverage and reduced my basal rate to 70% of what it normally is…. only for it to result in yet more hypos. So I reduced it again to 50% this time – ever more hypos (none too serious thankfully).

The next day I figured out what the hell was going on. When I was on a Cozmo, when changing your basal rate you set it to 70% if you wanted to deliver 30% less insulin. However, on an Animas (gah – should have noticed that pesky plus sign) you would set it to “-30%”. I discovered that what I’d done was set my pump to “+50%” and “+70%” which meant I was delivering 150% and 170% of my already too high insulin amounts – D’oh!!

Anyway – sorted that out by Day 2 and got on with more important things like buying cute baby stretch n gros and challenging my husband and the friends we were staying with to dress the cat up. See pic.
