I dashed across to the supermarket at lunchtime today (we are lucky to have one just across the road from work) and went straight to the sweets section. You see – I’m getting pretty sick of glucose tablets. They’re good to have in your bag for meetings or for at the gym or places where you need a no fuss, quick sugar hit. But at my desk I reckon I might have a hypo manager which is a little nicer to eat.

Anyway – I’m checking all the backs of the packs to find sweets that are sort of around 5g carb each, and I hear a lady walk up with her friend and say “Oh, now they’ve got sugar free sweets – what’s the point?”. Normally this wouldn’t annoy me, but having dropped down to 2.5 about an hour earlier I was 1) a bit scratchy coming off the low and 2) pretty fed up with having diabetes at that point. I felt like shouting back at her that there are some of us who benefit from sugar free items and she should try thinking before opening her big mouth (she did reiterate this stupid question a second time). But, I held my tongue. Probably a good thing!
