It was bound to happen at some point, and hopefully by making this mistake once I won’t make it again.
This morning I changed my pump site, but was having trouble getting the cannula to stick to my body – after two attempts I finally got the third one to stick. Was running quite late for work by this point so hurried through the change of tubing etc.
Got to work, had breakfast at 8:15, dialled up the dose, got stuck into my work.
9:30 came and time to check my BG. No – that can’t be right – 19.5. Check again. Oh noooooo, it really is 19.5. Something must be wrong!
All of a sudden it dawned on me… when I changed over the tubing this morning the pump didn’t give me the checklist which talks you through filling the tubing with insulin, then the needle. My ‘injection’ this morning had been nothing but air – arrrrgh! I took 6u straight away.
Have just checked again and it’s now 21.6 – zoiks. Hurry up and do your thing insulin!
