ApplicatorSo my first week on the Dexcom was up today (I’ve signed up for four weeks all up) and it was time to change over the sensor – something I’d only done with Justin from Insulin Pumps by my side, so I was keen not to mess it up on my own. It’s a pretty intuitive process, but you don’t want to get it wrong at $125 a pop, so I took care to re-read the instructions carefully. Always pays to get things right when needles are involved too, I find.

So I grabbed all my gear and headed off to the most isolated loo in the building – didn’t want the pressure of having to do it quickly. All was successful, I’m pleased to announce, despite a momentary panic when I didn’t think I could get the applicator off (see the pic – basically the whole trigger thing on an angle comes off if you do it right). I had a couple of goes of trying to release this long gun-handle shaped thing and thinking to myself, “why didn’t I bring my phone in with me? I’ll have to walk out there with a big erect object sticking out from under my top”. But took a deep breath and re-grouped and it was all good.

Now the unit is counting down for two hours before it starts up again, and meanwhile I’m eating my sushi off the record. Easy.
