scoreboardYup, night two of three of my CGMS has been and gone and the high morning blood sugars I have four days out of five are nowhere to be seen. Last night resulted in a 2.30am low (3.1) and a blood sugar of 3.8 on waking. Without the low I’d be very pleased with that night! I have one night left for the overnight highs to come back so we can see what’s going on. Strange to wish for it when I’ve spent the last few weeks wishing for the opposite. But I’m starting to look like the boy who cried wolf.

Aside from that, I’m finding I’m getting used to being attached to a machine. Even after two nights I am more accustomed to sleeping with it, and I used the tried and true shower twist tie trick again this morning.

One of my initial worries once I was attached to the CGMS was the wire which sometimes dangles tantalisingly in front of my two nine month old cats. These two will jump on anything (we had a great laugh at Christmas time last year when we found their little faces peeping out at us from a few branches up of our Christmas tree). So far they seem to have resisted it although I saw the little black one eyeing it up this morning as I got dressed and coming over for a sniff inspection. But I survived another day.

Another interesting exercise is the intricate operation that is getting dressed once you’ve got out of the shower…. have sort of worked out a system where I tie the towel around me and clip in on the towel…. but you need to have that towel pretty smartly secured as the unit’s pretty heavy, and will easily pull your towel down (not so much a worry when at home but I’m not a huge fan of flashing people at the gym, and they probably thank me for that).

One other thing which I’ve found annoying and distracting is the beeping of the unit. I’m all for it beeping if you’re heading for a high or a low (although we’ve not set those limits in this short trial) but it beeps when it thinks you might disconnect it, or the wire is slightly tangled, which happens fairly often. It seems to happen most often when I’m driving…. think it’s the re-positioning and possibly the seat belt. Dismissing this error is a four button exercise which isn’t all that safe when driving, but with it beeping every 20 seconds it really needs doing.

Right – on that note I’m off to work.
